MGS Portable Ops Walkthrough

I’m love Metal Gear Solid. It’s possibly my favourite series of games on consoles. I’m deep into playing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on PS3 at the moment, where all strands of the long and complex saga are being woven together to complete the story of Solid Snake.

There have been several spin-off Metal Gear games on handhelds, which are all non-canon to the main Metal Gear Solid series, like Metal Gear: Ghost Babel on the GameBoy Color, or the two Metal Gear Acid games on the PSP. This is where Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops differs from the rest. It is the true sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, which itself was a prequel to the entire series, focusing on Solid Snake’s father, Big Boss. So it fits in to the greater story of MGS, as does the forthcoming second sequel to MGS3, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.

Well, I don’t have a PSP, but wanted to fill in this part of the story from the life of Big Boss, and lo and behold, YouTube has done it again. Some kind chap has uploaded 3 videos, totalling almost 6 hours, of gameplay and cutscenes for this game in it’s entirety.

The cutscenes in Portable Ops are, unusually, done in a ‘Digital Motion Comics’ style, but with full voice cast of MGS. It works pretty well. Needless to say, there are spoilers ahead…
